Give blood, replace lost liquids with Red wine!

As a means to encourage our readers to make lifesaving but a simple contribution to our local communities, we would like to offer those in Bucharest or Brasov a bottle of red wine to anyone who donates blood! Just send us proof & pop into either of our 2 offices to collect your free bottle – it’s as simple as that.

I don’t need to explain to you the importance of such a donation, but you might not be aware of just how few people are donating blood in Romania. Only 1.7% of the adult population do this, compared to 66% in Austria. One single donation can save up to 3 lives. How many lives are lost because of an unnecessary shortage?

Romania is currently facing a major blood deficit, with donors accounting for only 66% of the total needed. Compared to the situation in the rest of the European countries where the number of donors ranges between 40-80 per thousand inhabitants, Romania ranges between 15-17 donors per one thousand inhabitants. Up to 40 blood units may be used in one liver transplant operation, and the need for blood transfusions is required in the most varied cases: road accidents, work-related injuries, major surgery, blood-borne diseases or gastric affections. One in ten patients arriving at hospitals in Romania needs blood or blood products. Statistically, every person on the planet needs – over the course of their life – at least once in the blood.

Giving blood regularly has itself been ascribed potential health benefits in coronary artery disease and oxygen-free radical chemistry. Regular blood donation is a life-saving treatment for hereditary haemochromatosis and polycythemia vera.  You will also receive a detailed report on the condition of blood given, which may prove life-saving to you, as an early warning tool.

As a community gesture to encourage you, any readers sending/ bring us evidence of such a donation will receive a bottle of red wine from us to top up the red liquid you lost!

Below we will add donation methods for Bucharest & Brasov as the information becomes available to us.
