Business 

• US chemical fertilisers supplier Azomures will invest €205 million in modernising its installations, and in the construction of an electric power plant with a total production capacity of 120 MW.

• German discount retailer LIDL invested over €200 million in acquiring all 96 Plus stores from the German Tengelmann Group, thus consolidating its position on the Romanian market.

• Romanian renewable energy company Blue Line Energy will invest over €65 million in developing three electric energy production projects using wind turbines, with a total capacity of 43.6 MW.

• US private medical service provider Centrul Medical Unirea will invest €30 million over the next two years in new clinics acquisitions and in opening a new hospital with over 100 beds in Bucharest.

• German automotive parts manufacturer Hella will invest an estimated €20 million over the next two years in production equipment for its units in Timisoara and Lugoj, Timis County; and Arad and Craiova, Dolj County.

• US pharmaceutical company LaborMed Pharma invested an estimated €20 million in acquiring the Ozone products portfolio (pain medicines, vitamins).

• The Romanian Ministry of Regional Development and Tourism together with the Gura Humorului City Hall invested €10.5 million in the construction of a 1.5 km long ski slope in Gura Humorului, Suceava County.

• German packaging company STI Group invested an estimated €10 million in opening a factory for folding boxes in Cluj, Cluj-Napoca County. The production unit became functional in January 2010.

• Romanian airline Blue Air invested an estimated €9 million in acquiring a new office building in Bucharest, which will house all the companies owned by Romanian businessperson Nelu Iordache.

• German private medical service provider Fresenius NephroCare invested an estimated €6-10 million in acquiring two new dialysis centres in Deva, Hunedoara County; and Satu Mare.

• Romanian engineering, construction and technology firm Rap Group will invest an estimated €5-10 million in the construction of a new chocolate factory in Ghimbav, Brasov County. The factory will be used to transfer part of the production from the former “Poiana” chocolate factory in Brasov.

• Romanian furniture manufacturer and distributor Mobexpert invested €4 million in opening a new store with a total surface of 10,255 m² within Sun Plaza Mall in southern Bucharest. This is its fifth store in Bucharest.

• Romanian Ford dealer Plusauto will invest €2.5 million in opening its fourth Ford dealership in Craiova, Dolj County.

• Romanian businessperson Nelu Iordache will invest €2 million in acquiring two locomotives. This is part of a larger project intended to create a means of transportation to and from the Bacau airport, thus linking it to the largest nearby cities.

• Romanian cosmetics producer Farmec invested €1.5 million in modernising its distribution centre in Bucharest.

• Romanian PVC and aluminium profiling manufacturer Plast Technik will invest €1.3 million in constructing a production unit in Cluj, Cluj-Napoca County and acquiring equipment for PVC, aluminium and glass processing. 

Real Estate

• Italian real estate company Nusco invested €50 million in the construction of the Nusco Tower office building in northern Bucharest. The 18-storey building has a total surface of 17,000 m² and is set to be finalised in April 2010.

• Lithuanian real estate developer Europa Group will invest €11 million in the construction of a four-star hotel called 'Royale' in the centre of Bucharest. Construction works are set to be finalised in August 2010.

• Romanian businessperson George Copos will invest an estimated €10 million in converting the Sportul Hotel in Poiana Brasov, Brasov County into a 100-room boutique hotel. Construction works will begin this month.

• Romanian real estate rental company Sigur Imob invested €2.6 million in acquiring an 8 ha plot of land on the former Rulmentul industrial platform in Brasov.
