Investment of 88 mln euros in road safety Brasov-Bucharest, DN1

The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure will invest around 88 million euros for the modernization of traffic safety on Route 1 - DN1, linking Bucharest to Brasov (south-north), in villages and most dangerous zones on the road, MTI informed.

The government on Wednesday passed a decision on the approval of the technical-economic indicators of the investment target 'Modernization of traffic safety on Route 1, in linear villages and black spots'. The project has a total value of 371.4 million lei, about 88 million, of which 103.5 million lei European funding, approximately 23.7 million euros.

The project includes measures to limit the speed of traffic ahead of entering a locality, central refuges for pedestrian crossings, sheltered bus stops near pedestrian crossings, U-turn four-lane road segments, two-lane road for left turns and pedestrian crossings, one-lane roundabouts, two-lane zebra crossing with no central refuge, traffic slowing devices, signs and markings, as well as roundabouts just ahead of localities and traffic separators, which will facilitate and ensure better traffic conditions and traffic behavior.

The Road Safety Audit conducted by CNADNR in 2005, for the period 2000-2004, showed that the DN 1 had the highest number of accidents, with 193 deaths, 375 injured and a significant property damage, as the road with the highest crimiogenic degree of the national road network.

During the audit a total of 65 locations were identified, of which the auditor, the Traffic Police and CNADNR have selected a number of 34 locations for the application of the measures of traffic safety improvement on DN 1.
