As many people will know to their annoyance, the Ikea store Bucharest, when it opened a few years back, was around 50% more expensive than any other Ikea store in Europe, including London=Wembley.
With each new catalogue, the owners could not withold their greed & prices of pupular items, from beds to kitchens rose with each opportunity to publish a new set of prices.
Then a step increase was made. As is so often the case in Romania with perceived ;'Western Goods', the owners of Ikea, whch was then a private franchise, put many of their prices up by 30%, making it ridiculous. Ikea central decided to take control of the store, centralising & hence reducing prices. One school of thought is that the March 2010 hike of 30% was a last ditch twist of the knife to sell back the stock to Ikea at huge profits.
However, all that is thankfully behind us as Ikea prices are set to drop next week with the launch of the new catalogue. Horah!
